    The most common is fish and rice that has been cooked with green veggies But we have a tradition of making multiple different kinds of food, and having the hardest to make family dish being cooked on the stove the moment the new year happens Then we have enough food for literally an entire week :3

    People eat toshikoshi soba noodles on New Year's Eve. The reason is that soba noodles are easier to break than other noodles, and so they are said to ward off bad luck. Also, because soba noodles are long and thin, they are said to represent a wish for long life.
