How important is character customization for you?

  When there is a strategic component involved: Very much so. When there isn't I still enjoy it and will spend an hour or so doing it, but I don't mind the absence either.

  Depends. If the game has a preestablished character that speaks and has their own personality, then no. But, if the character is just a link between us an the game, then I'd at least like to choose how my link looks. Nothings takes me out of the story and world more than being a silent protag that I don't like to look at for hours on end.

  I put an average amount of care into creating characters, I don't think I've ever spent more than 40 minutes on the creation screen. Once they are created though, I tend to spend a lot of time customising outfits, if at all possible in-game. Which is also why I tend to play female characters, there is just a greater range of clothing most of the time.

  I think I don't care all that much for visual customization but I really like games that allow me to make lots of gameplay choices and character builds (I'm mostly talking of rpgs though) I don't like to feel like my character's skill set is just too generic
